I am a 28 yr old male and asthmatic. I currently have been suffering mild chest congestion causing me to cough up yellow mucous. The cough and mucous production alone have not been very troubling, but when I do cough deeply I taste/smell a very strong ammonia odor that is quite concerning.
As a sidenote to the recent congestion and related mucous production, I believe it is related to a recent 10 day cycle I completed of Prednisone for an unrelated Achilles injury.
Thanks for your question on HCM. In my opinion, you are mostly having lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI - pneumonia). You are having following risk factors for pneumonia. 1. Asthma 2. Recently taken prednisone (steroid). And your symptoms like cough, mucus production and bad odour etc are suggestive of pneumonia more. So consult pulmonologist and get done 1. Clinical examination of respiratory system. 2. Chest x ray. You may need antibiotics and antihistamines drugs.
