What Is The Cause Of Chills, Body Pain, Abdominal Spasms And Loose Stools?

My husband is experiencing a sudden onset of chills and terrible body aches to the point that he was experiencing spasms throughout his abdominal area. He has been fighting a sinus infection and has been on augmentin the past week (and has also suffered bouts of loose stools off and on which we attributed to the antibiotic) under his dr advice today he switched antibiotics to z-PAC at noon today. I don t know what to do for him as he is so miserable - he has had a headache throughout the night - Advil 4 hours ago and 1 excedrin an hr ago. He suddenly developed severe chills and pain throughout in the span of about 10 min - what could be the cause of such an onset?

Pain Medicine & Palliative Care Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
It would appear that you husband is suffering from a severe sinus infection. This type of infection can last for up to 2 weeks. The chills and body aches indicate that the infection is still on-going and has not yet responded to the antibiotics.
I suggest that you encourage him to drink plenty of water to stay well hydrated. Continue regular pain relief with the meds he is already taking. Warm face packs held over the frontal sinuses may help. You should notice an improvement over the next few days.
If he develops swelling around his eyes, I suggest you take him to the ER as this may indicate the infection has spread.
I wish him a speedy recovery.
