What Is The Cause Of Dizziness And Nausea When On Erithromycin?

Yesterday my husband was diagnosed with pertussis. He was given erythromycin and is has taken 3 doses of it. today he is so dizzy and nauseated and says his head hurts from being so dizzy that he can t get out of bed...... Are the side effects that severe? or would there possibly be more wrong with him.

Hi,

Most probably he is experiencing the side effects of using erithromycin. You can discuss further with his doctor in order to get him further evaluated and to think about changing therapy.

Beside side effects, he might be suffering the consequences of pertussis damages in his body, therefore, he should be further evaluated by his doctor.

Meanwhile, I advise to:
- keep the home free of possible irritants that can trigger coughing: chemical fumes, dust, smoke, etc.
- ask him practice good hygienic measures (especially when washing hands)
- give him plenty of fluids (water, soups) to prevent dehydration that can worsen his condition

Wish fast recovery!
