General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Rib cage pain can occur due to 1.costochondritis ( inflammation of cartilage near breastbone)- in this condition pain felt in front of chest which is sharp & stabbing in nature worse with movement, exertion and deep breathing.
2. osteoporosis
3. bruised, cracked or fractured rib
4. pleurisy- inflammation of pleura, layer surrounding lung.
so, one particular reason for causing pain in your condition only be confirmed by a physician after proper evaluation. Before that go for total blood count, X- ray chest PA view, bone scan. Take proper rest at home, tab. paracetamol 500 mg at every 6 hours.
Take care, bye.
