What Is The Cause Of Pain In The Palm Right Below The Thumb After Got Hurt?
hi, i was just playing basketball and during a pass the ball hit the top of my thumb i felt a pop and instant pain. i then pulled on it thinking it was jammed and it felt like a normal finger crack sound. My palm right bellow my thumb is swollen not bruised and i have throbbing pain. i can move my thumb but when i move it in a circular motion the is pain in my palm
Hello.. You have got a Thumb sprain or Skier's thumb..collateral ligaments at the base of MCP joint got injured.
If its a mild to moderate ligament injury..you can resume your sports within 4-6 weeks with adequate treatment ..
A fracture can be ruled out with an X-ray..and physical exam to know degree of ulnar collateral ligament injury
Adequate rest to the joint, pain killers(advil), ice packs reduces swelling, thumb strapping is required. Most of them will heal well. Later simple exercises of opposing , extension and flexion will help.
