General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi. This is classical finding::: pain is relieved on passing gas.
There is a possibility of sigmoid volvulus or severe colitis.
Volvulus can be diagnosed only on standing x-ray of the abdomen when there is pain ( and if local distension).
A course of antibiotic and metronidazole for colitis can give you a cure.
Volvulus may need a small surgery.
Consult a Gastro Surgeon.
