my wife has had kidney problems for years and doctors seem to think that all people have went to school to become doctors this is my questions
her results of a recent scan has shown Renal parenchymal echogenicity is mildly increased. and -Parenchymal thickness: Diffusely thinned what are these and are they a concern      * * *Final Report* * *

PROCEDURE REASON: Calculus of kidney

RENAL ULTRASOUND AND PELVIS/BLADDER POST VOID RESIDUAL ON 1/15/15

HISTORY: Renal stones

COMPARISON: None

TECHNIQUE: Sonography of the kidneys and urinary bladder was performed.
Images were obtained and stored in a permanent archive.

RESULT:
Right Kidney:
-Renal length: 12.5 cm.
-Parenchyma: Renal parenchymal echogenicity is mildly increased.
-Parenchymal thickness: Normal with areas of mild cortical loss.
-Hydronephrosis: Moderate.
-Calculus: Multiple small echogenic foci at the central kidney
compatible with changes of medullary nephrocalcinosis.
-Lesion: None.

Left Kidney: Autotransplanted into the left lower quadrant.
-Renal length: 8.4 cm.
-Parenchyma: Renal parenchymal echogenicity is mildly increased.
-Parenchymal thickness: Diffusely thinned
-Hydronephrosis: None.
-Calculus: Multiple small echogenic foci at the central kidney
compatible with changes of medullary nephrocalcinosis.
-Lesion: None.

Bladder: Normal sonographic appearance. Prevoid bladder volume is
approximately 314 cc. There is no post void residual.
IMPRESSION:

STABLE MODERATE RIGHT HYDRONEPHROSIS. NO LEFT HYDRONEPHROSIS.

MEDULLARY NEPHROCALCINOSIS AS NOTED ON PRIOR CT SCAN. LEFT KIDNEY IS
ATROPHIC.

NO POSTVOID RESIDUAL IN THE BLADDER.
