What Is The Prognosis For A Person With Systemic Mastocytosis?
I have been diagnosed with systemic Mastocytosis. I m 65 years old. I believe I ve had the mastocytosis for 15 years. I had a sever reaction about that long ago but didn t see a doctor until a year ago. From what I ve read 30 percent of adult diagnosed with SM develope into cancer. If that happens what is the prognosis?
hello sir. i have read your question very well and its a good question. 30% of adults may develop into a systemic carcinoma. But this number is not a hard and fast rule. In my experience,if you take medication regularly and avoid all the trigger factors for mastocytosis like ingestion of pain killers etc.the chances are very minimal to develop carcinoma. the important question is about its outcome.the recent research indicates that the survival percentage with anti cancer therapy is 70-80%.There are good anti cancer like cladribine and interferon alpha drugs we have tried and achieved remission in lot of subjects. hope this answes the question.
