My mum has been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and has been given 2-4 month to live. we are coming up to week 7 and he is very frail, weak, tired and just not well at all, her potassium has dropped to a very low level and her weight has gained, but she looks thiner apart from an extended tummy. How do I know when it is the end?
Hi Since your mum is suffering from small cell lung cancer and since she is very weak and frail i would advise basic supportive care during this stage. Oral potassium supplementation like fruit juice and coconut water will increase her potassium level. Home based oxygen cylinder is to be arranged during acute shortness of breath. Tummy extension called ascites needs to be drained periodically ultrasonographically guided. Average life span is around 5 to 6 months during this stage. Regards DR De
