What Is The Prognosis If Echotexture Of Normal Size Liver Has Decreased In A Pregnant Patient?
A primi gravida of aged 27yrs developed ICP IN HER 1-ST TRIMESTER.NOW UNDER TREATMENT OF URSODEOXYCHOLIC ACID since last 3-wks.N.B. 1-ST LFT-before the treatment-ALP666,SGPT-399.6,SGOT-167.6.S.Bilirubin-3.84. USG-normal with normal fetus development & no gall stones but echotexture of normal size liver decreased what will be the prognosis?
The degree of echotexture of the liver does not necessarily reflect the degree of the disease or the success of treatment. Only a test of the liver function enzymes, and documenting a decrease, can clarify whether the treatment is working. It certainly is a good sign that the echotexture has decreased but it is not definitive. No matter whether the liver enzymes do during the pregnancy, the patient is still has a risk of unexplained stillborn, so I would consult with a maternal-fetal medicine specialist to recommend the degree of monitoring and timing of the delivery once the patient reaches the third trimester.
