What Is The Reason For An Increase In The Pulse Rate?

Hello.. I take (1)Metoprolol 100mg and (1) Diltiazem 90mg twice aday (morning & night). My concern is my pulse rate when I lay down; it increases in both rhythm and strength. Why are the reasons for your pulse rate to increase when you lie down? It is my understanding that the metoprolol decrease the heart rate.

Hi There

I have read your query and will try to explain the physiology behind it.
Whenever we are standing or walking some amount of blood pools down in the venous system of our lower limbs due to the effect of gravity and then when we lie down this accumulated blood return back to the heart increasing the amount of blood to be pumped by the heart due to which heart pumps faster and stronger to compensate for this extra blood that returns to heart.

If they are bothering you too much and disturbing your sleep then you can increase the dose of DILZEM SR after discussing it with your doctor personally.

I wish you good health
