Hello and welcome to HCM, The presence of painful reddish area in the throat, painless lump on the soft palate and a discoloration on the soft palate may be a manifestation of one disease process. Do you use tobacco in any form? Tobacco chewing and/ or tobacco smoking is associated with oral cancers, cancer of the throat, lung cancer etc. Any patch in the mouth whether red or white should be investigated. A biopsy may be required to know the changes taking place in the mucosa. An associated sinus infection is unlikely to cause a painful red colored patch in the throat or oral cavity.
