What Is The Recommended Medication For A Sexually Active Person Suffering From Green Discharge And Itching In Vagina?
Hello doctor, from past 2 years am facing a strange problem. I had intense itching in my pubic area and later i realized that it was due to collection of clumpy light greenish discharge in my vagina. On removing it through a finger the sensation of itching goes away. But it keeps coming back and has a fish odour. I suspect a yeast/bacterial infection. Could you please advice me medication for the same. I am sexually active from past 2.5 years. We always used condoms and I feel that does not suit me. Please suggest. Thanks, Ankita

I can understand your concern about the greenish discharge per vaginum. I will try my best to answer your question and guide you through the problem.
You seem to have a condition called as Bacterial vaginosis. This is caused by a bacteria and it metabolises substances which have a fishy/ amine odour. The secretions here are greenish in color. This can be treated with tablet metronidazole for 7 days.
Other possibility is that of a candidial vaginitis and this can be treated with a clotrimazole pessary.
A smear and gram stain of the vagina secretions will help us know the exact aetiological agent. If the smear suggests gonococci then you need to take a single dose of injection ceftriaxone 1 gm iv.
