What Is The Red Streak In The Drained Abscess?

I have an abscess in my left knee. i cut it to drain it out. i didn't drain completely so i put neosporin in cotton and covered it. there is a long red streak along my thigh which kinda pains and maybe starts from that abscess. what is that red streak and is it serious?
