Is Predisone the only treatment option...and will that eventually allow me to be able to get up out of a chair or the toilet by myself...I started seeing problems last June and went to a dermatologist and was told that I have an allergic reaction to pesticides and household cleaning products...and later learned from the new dermatologist that I have dermatomyosis...I could see myself getting weaker as the time progressed but the first dermatologist did not take my warrant seriously and just kept telling me to put on clobetasol ointment
Dermatomycosis OR Dermatophytosis is managed by oral and topical antifungals rather than topical corticosteroids. Topical clobetasol will just suppress the signs of inflammation like redness, scaling and itching but will actually allow the fungus to proliferate and spread by acting as an immunosuppressant.
Topical antifungals like clotrimazole/ketoconazole/sertaconazole/luliconazole can be use twice daily for 2-4 weeks depending on the site and extent.
Oral antifungals like fluconazole/terbinafine can also be started by the treating dermatologist for extensive involvement.
An OTC antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10mg once daily for symptomatic relief of itching can be taken
take care regards
