Hot fomentation thrice a day over the swelling with antibiotic eye ointment like Chloramphenicol over the lid margins twice a day,along with Ciplox drops 6 times a day will help her now. If she has pain an anti inflammatory drugs will be more effective.
Recurrent swellings should be evaluated for any tumours/ chronic blepharitis / Diabetes and additional oral antibiotic therapy.

Hot compresses with hot water and a washcloth or clean rag are more effective than anything else. Surgery may be requried in some cases when the inflammation in the stye becomes chronic. In this case, the pussy material is replaced by hard granulomatous inflammation which often needs to be excised or debulked surgically. If the same area recurs biopsy is indicated to rule out a rare cancer (sebacious cell carcinoma.)

For the moment, use the ointment a couple of times a day and monitor the eyelid for the development of redness. If redness expands to eye eyelid, oral antiobiotics are required to control lid cellulitis.



Long term, eyelid scrubs and twice daily hot compresses may reduce the rate of recurrences.
