What Is The Remedy For The Pain And Burning On The Hands Due To 2nd Degree Burns?

I was burnt with cooking oil on wednesday night. I applied a topical ointment and bandage and went about my business. Thursday into friday i was experiencing so much pain that on Friday morning I ended up going to Urgent care in my home town for a check up on it because I had giant blisters now and one had burst. She diagnosed me with 2nd degree burns and gave me silver sulfadiazene and bandage material and told me to keep it covered, change dressing 2 times daily and take naprosyn 500 mg bid and vicoprofen for breakthrough pain as well as 500mg keflex 4 times daily. I was still unable to stop the pain and was unable to sleep on thursday night or friday and the arm and hand was swelling and the redness was spreading. I contacted urgent care again and she thought that I should go to the ER and have them draw blood and make sure that I was not having a more severe problem. I went to the er yesterday morning and the dr looked at it said I will give you more pain meds and you need to see a surgeon on monday. He even said he could see the redness and yet didn t think I needed to do anything other than what I was doing. Today I am still having to take two percoset to stop the pain and the arm and hand is redder and spreading and I can actually feel it throbbing. Is this normal for 2nd degree burns?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to burning.

I see that you have already taken medications.

So, I suggest continuing the medications given in the emergency room.

I also suggest using painkillers such as Ibuprofen to relieve the pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi, General &Family Physician
