Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my 19 mos granddaughter was running a 101 -102 temp on Friday and was given children's motrin which took the fever away. She was okay throughout the night but in the morning the fever came back and she was taken to the emergency room and was diagnosed with Viremia which we understand to be a virus in the blood. She was given Motrin every 8 hours on Sat and Sunday and did not run a temp. Today Monday she was given Motrin once this morning with no fever. I have been doing a bit of research on the condition but it seems strange for a child to get it. Can you give me some insight to this diagnosis, how common is it for a child, where did it come from, is there any treatment and should there be a follow-up. What I have been reading, it seems serious. Please advise.
hi, viremia means viral infection in the blood. the infection is usually passed on in the air. if inhale that air you get it. it also can happen due to change in weather when its hot suddenly it starts raining. there is no medications we give for viremia we just manage the fevers and infection disappears on its own. its is very common to have viremia in children secondary to a cold or a cough. so dont worry about it, it is a common condition in children. just give your child plenty of fluids, eat vegetables and fruits and alot of rest she will be well in a few days. hope to have answered your query. thanking you.
