What Is The Risk In Having A Second Open Heart Surgery?
I had by-pass surgery (2) 15 years ago and a recent cath show they are in good condition. However my aoritic valve is leaking and needs to be replaced. I am 75 and in good physical condition and want to know the risks of opening the chest the 2nd time versus a Tavr procedure.
Hi welcome to HCM. Bypass surgery on two occasions in the past is not a contraindication for aortic valve replacement particularly if there is valvular regurgitation. The risk benefit ratio is high considering the age of the patient.A baseline 2 dimensional echo can provide the functional reserve and fitness for surgery.Cardiac anesthetist will be able to make the final decision.Consult your cardiologist for further queries. Thank you.
