What Is The Small Knot At The Piercing Site?

I got my belly button pierced three and a half months ago...now my navel piercing has a small knot located around the piercing and I'm not sure if it is an abscess or what. Also there is a small, but weird looking nodule around the bottom opening to the piercing. Any suggestions?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic.

I would keep a possibility of keloid, which is excessive scar tissue formation in response to an injury

Keloids are best managed with intralesional steroids e.g intralesional triamcinolone acetonide. The depot injection causes breakdown of the excessive collagen tissue present in keloidal scar, thereby causing them to flatten.

The injection might be repeated after 3 weeks if required.
