Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Dr. I have been on nexium for 5 weeks now and my nausea which I felt after eating has pretty much disappeared. Great. I m still taking the nexium now because my doctor didn t tell me when to stop. 1. Do I stop now that all of my original symptoms have subsided? 2. The side effects are very ugly for me. Tried to play 18 holes of golf the other day, and I felt exhausted after 12 holes and had to quit. My GI had me take a stress test 2 weeks ago which all came back normal. I can only relate the fatigue to the nexium. Everything else in my life outside of the treatment for gasritis is normal. Thoughts please. I have been a relatively active healthy person my whole life and have been playing golf for 30 years and never experienced anything like that. By the way I am a 54 year old black male. Thanks
Hello, Thank you for using HCM to post your health query. Nexium is used for a variety of diagnosis and the time of use depends on each diagnosis. It is usually prescribed for 4 weeks and it is considered to continue for 4 weeks more if the symptoms are not resolved completely.
From what I can read in your question, your symptoms have subsided. If I were you, I would stop Nexium. If symptoms come back use it for 4 weeks more at a dose of 20mg each day.
Best regards, Dr. Fernando Bátiz
