What Is The Survival Rate For 4th Stage Ovarian Cancer Patient?
my sister has ovarian cancer and when she found out it was in the 3rd stage and she had chemo treatments and was suppose to have surgery but my brother also had cancer of the throat and neck and had his voice box removed so she decided to not have the surgery because he was dying now after 6 mos. of her treatments and 2 1/2 months since my brothers death she has been sick ever since and now she found out that she is in the 4th stage of ovarian cancer what is her survival rate?? thank you
Patients diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer have disease that has spread outside the abdomen or into the liver. Currently, the standard treatment for Stage IV ovarian cancer consists of both surgery and chemotherapy. Unfortunately, less than 10% of patients experience long-term survival following standard treatment. This is because Stage IV ovarian cancer is difficult to completely remove with surgery and the currently available chemotherapy is unable to eradiate all of the remaining cancer. Both optimal cytoreductive surgery and platinum-based chemotherapy prolong the time to cancer recurrence and improve overall survival. Regards DR DE
