I had an umbilical hernia at birth which was surgically corrected at age 4 or 5, at 25 I had pain after moving and lifting things and they said no hernia, now at 43 (18 years later) doctor just did CT scan with liquid (ingested) contract and IV contrast and I have a small umbilical hernia and have an appointment to discuss it next week - apparently these are harder to diagnose in females. When I do get pain in stops me in its tracks and can last for hours. I am wondering the following things: can it make periods more painful? smaller the hernia the more painful? hurt when need to or are passing gas or having BM? pain from navel down when urinating? I also appear to be sensitive to gluten and I have seen that that can also cause belly button discomfort.
