What Is The Treatment For Cough With Mucus In The Throat?

I have a bad cough with a build up of mucus in my throat. Sometimes I can and can t cough it out and usually it hurts. My throat is no swollen though. What can I do to make this cold or whatever it is go away? I come from a family who never takes medicine and usually let things heal naturally. I am very unfamiliar with over the counter medicines. I ve never taken Tylenol, Advil, etc in my life. What do you recommend?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of a sinus infection or a local bacterial infection. For this reason, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam, a sinus X-ray study and a throat discharge bacterial culture. Antibiotics may be needed. You should discuss with his doctor on the above tests.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
