What Is The Treatment For Gangrene On The Foot Of A 85 Year Old?
My mom is in the end stages of Altzheimers. She is 85. Recently she developed a pressure sore on her foot. The doctors gave her anitbiotics, but they did not help and she now has gangrene on her foot, and it is black. We are not treating this. Is there survival of untreated gangrene, and if not, how long does that end process last. She is on Roxinol for pain and to stay comfortable.
The only treatment of gangrene is amputation of that particular part. If amputation is not done on time then the infection from gangrenous part spreads to rest of the body via blood and in that case condition becomes severe. There is no specific time limit to quote for survival. It varies from person to person and other comorbid conditions.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. Wishing her good health.
