What Is The Treatment For Hernia Near The Stoma Forming A Lesion?

my wife has a stoma hernia and recently she has developed some form of lesion close to the stoma making it difficult to put on her appliance without covering this lesion. It seems to be spreading and an ostomy nurse didn t seem to have a answer as how to treat it. I am concerned because her ostomy Dr. sats she would not get through another operation. several things i have researched such as ulcers, lesion, fistulas and bed sores on the net provide little info on how to treat these problems. Thank you in advance for any info. Bob Durkin

Hello,

It could be an eczema around the aroma site. As of now you can apply topical antibiotics like mupirocin after cleaning the area.

Make sure that the bowel content should not come in contact with the skin as it will lead to excoriation. Include more protein rich foods to the diet as it will improve the healing process.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
