General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I understand your concern.
Your boyfriend has genital warts. Treatment for genital warts just removes the warts & not the human pappillo virus. So even if the warts disappear, patient can infect others.
* Treatment for warts can be-
- Medicine for local application ( to be used with care as surrounding skin may get damaged if applied carelessly. Use medicine prescribed by your doctor after examining , learn exact way of application.
- If medical treatment does not respond, / the warts are wide spread, surgical treatment is recommended.
* Infection is carried by sexual contact. It is not related to ejaculation/ pre cum.So you have all the possibility of catching infection, you should get consultation of a gynecologist.
-* Prevention of infection is only by use of condom.
* Genital warts show after few weeks or months of sexual contact.
- Your doctor would diagnose it with mere inspection.
- diagnostic tests include - Pap smear or DNA test.
Actually the fact that you already had cancer in past.. indicates you being already affected by HPV... please take care & consult as early as possible.
Thanks.
