What Is The Treatment For Headache And Short Term Memory Loss?

4 yrs ago I suffered a hit to my forehead where I blacked out for a few seconds, slumped over, muffled hearing, & spots before my eyes. Since then I have had dizzy spells & headaches regularly, short term memory loss, sharp pains in my head. I have been seeing a neurologist and so far she doesn t know what is wrong with me. I have had almost every type of blood work done, 3 CT scans with and without contrast, & a EEG which are all normal! I don t know what to do! I even started keeping a journal recently as symptoms happen and it is way more then I thought! What should I do or get tested for?

Hello !
I read your question and understand your concern.
In my opinion the symptoms you describe are related to the head concussion. It is very common to have headaches, memory problems and irritability after head concussion. You have done all the exams you need. Only for the memory problems there are specific neuropsychological tests, to examine better your memory problems.
I would recommend Amytriptiline or Topiramate for some months for headaches. These two drugs have shown to be effective in cases like yours. Unfortunately no medications are currently recommended specifically for the treatment of cognitive problems after mild traumatic brain injury.Time may be the best therapy for post-concussion syndrome if you have cognitive problems, as most of them go away on their own in the weeks to months following the injury.Certain forms of cognitive therapy may be helpful.
Hope to have been helpful!
Best wishes, Dr. Abaz Quka
