What Is The Treatment For Hypothyroidism, Headache, And Chest Pain?

I have been sick for the past five months. I was an athlete previously, dancer and canoe paddlet. Now I can't walk a half a mile without becoming fatigued. I am a 47 year old woman. They have run every test on me and most of my bloodwork is normal...I do have hypothyroidism for the past 25 years. Recently I had an echocardiogram. My internust told me that my heart is structurally sound but I have a leaky valve. My father had his first heart attack at 29. My doc dismissed the leaky valve as nothing and will not refer me to a cardiologist. I have been to the ER several times wuth chest pain, leg and ankle pain, chrobic headaches. At first I lost so much weight...down to 108. I am worried sick.

Hello,
Welcome to Health Care Magic. I read carefully your query and I understand your concern.
The headache and the chest pain are symptoms from your leaky valve as I see your description it is a mitral valve prolapsed or regurgitation that was diagnosed by the echocardiogram.
From studies it was shown a greater prevalence of mitral valve prolapsed in patient with autoimmune thyroid disorder like Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis that cause the hypothyroidism that you have suffered for 25 year long.
From your description I understand that you have a mitral regurgitation and Hashimoto Thyroiditis this two disorder affect more women than male.
You have two diseases that serve to monitor during all the time, so for the valve mitral prolapsed you should add to your routine examination the echocardiogram (1 in a few years) and a follow-up by the cardiologist that can prescribe the right medication for your symptoms and prevent the complication.
For the Hypothyroidism caused from Hashimoto disease you should take synthetic hormonal thyroid replacement and monitor the dosage of them and follow –up by the endocrinologist.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Kind regard,
Dr .Marsida Janko
