What Is The Treatment For Insomnia And Depression During Menopause?

Hi Doc,
I am 53 yrs old and going through menopause, I am now suffering with insomnia everynight I can't sleep, I given a sleeping tablet to take but after a couple hours of sleep I will be wide awake and I do not sleep out the tablet, a family member told me that I may be suffering from depression what do you think?

Hi.

I understand your concern.

Post menopause depression is common and it is due to hormonal changes.

Proper psychological evaluation and mental status examination is also advisable.

Sertraline in low doses like 25 mg is helpful to treat depression. Insomnia can be treated with low dose anxiolytic like clonazepam and lorazepam.

Consult psychiatrist and get help.
