Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Is The Treatment For Nutcracker Esophagus As Procardia Didn't Work?
I have a nutcracket esphogus that is not responding to normal treatment, I take 3 nexium a day, maloxx and lidocaine mixed together and recently my gatroentrologist put me on Procardia xl. If that does not work he says the next step is surgery. What does this surgergy entail?
Procardia is used to treat the esophagus by causing it to relax. This surgery would likely entail removing your esophagus, which would be a large surgery with significant side effects. Unless your symptoms are debilitating, I would continue with medical therapy. I usually only recommend esophagectomy (removal of the esophagus) in patients who have esophageal cancer.
I hope this is helpful. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
