What could cause chest pain in a 6 yr old? My daughter woke up in the middle of the night asking for water. Then she said her chest hurt. She couldn t lay down because that made it hurt more. She couldn t even let me hold her. I gave her a tums hoping it was heart burn due to too much candy the night before (Halloween) but it didn t help. I also gave her Motrin. She said it hurt to breath, but her breathing seemed normal. She had no other symptoms. I was just about to rush off to the ER when she finally calmed down and eventually fell asleep. I m waiting for the pediatrician s office to open so I can make an appointment. But I was wondering if you could tell me what would cause chest pain in an otherwise healthy, active 6 yr old? Could it have been heart burn?
I think the chest pain may have muscle origin. Even the heart burn is possible and she can eat earlier at least 3 hours before bed. Taking Motrin is advisable to cope with muscle pain. It may go itself in a couple of days.
