Yesterday I woke up with a very sore throat with some redness visible in the back of it. I gargled salt water and took some acetamenophen(?). This morning I woke up and it was WORSE. Now my neck is tender to the touch and from what I can see there may be a little white on my tonsils. Does this mean I have an infection and need to see a doctor immediately? Is there anything I can do to help myself at home? Would a walk-in clinic like Walgreens be able to help me?
All your history is well suggestive of follicular tonsillitis and thus I would advise you the following in such a situation: Consult your Doctor immediately for clinical examination and request for throat swab for strep, gram staining, culture and sensitivity. Get started or proper course of an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory medicines. Oral gargles with anti-septic solution meant for gargling. Continue the course till fully recovered. Plenty of oral fluids. Probiotics. Multivitamins and mineral to cope with weakness.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
