What Is The Treatment For Shooting Pain In The Neck?

Hi. Recently, I've been getting a shooting pain in the left side of my neck after an evening of drinking alcohol and smoking (seems to be more strongly tied to drinking). The pain starts around an hour or two after I stop drinking, and it extends from behind my jawbone to the base of my neck -- sometimes up to my left ear. It's similar sensation to muscle pain, but it isn't affected much by changing the positon of my head when sitting or lying down. I'm 23, reasonably healthy and I have a good medical history. A number of online resources suggest that such a symptom may be lymph node related, should I be concerned?
