What Is The Treatment For Swollen Belly?

my husband is 41, was diagnosed at 32 with MS. He had a yearly check up about 5 months ago and some elevated liver function, now his right side lower belly is swollen and has some discomfort. This swollen belly has been around for a year or more but over the past month or two has become noticeably larger. The doctor only took more blood at his last check up, we have insurance, should I ask for him to have an ultrasound or MRI?

As you mentioned that serum enzymes level are increased and this is the most common reason that liver enlargement is there .
As you mentioned that there is enlarged lower belly , so liver enlargement is the main cause of enlarged belly but primary reason of liver enlargement may be in the large intestine of right side of abdomen( as you mentioned that lower belly is enlarged).
Diagnosis can be confirmed by M RI of lower abdomen with ultrasound of liver and other abdominal organ.
Abdominal ascites may nbe the other cause of lower belly enlargement so get in ultrasound of abdomen.
In my opinion consult a Gastro-enterologist and get his opinion.
