What Is The Treatment For Tiny Ears, Ear Ache And Build Up Pressure In Ear?

Hi, I m a 38 year old mother of two daughters (aged 3 and 5) and I have tiny ears - they never grow, infact my three year old s ears are the same size as mine now. Whenever I go on an aeroplane I have absolutely agonising ear pain - nothing pops to clear the build up of pressure like the majority of people have and it gives me a terriblble headache and ear ache and brings me to tears. I do have a high pain threshold (I gave birth naturally twice) but nothing helps this pain. Is it connected and is there anything I can do?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have tiny ears, ear ache and build up pressure in ear which can occur due to accumulation of ear wax to more serious acoustic neuroma like condition. While flying more negative pressure is build up so it will cause ear pain. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. Doctor may prescribe drug like eperisone , muscle relaxant and sedatives. Maintain hygiene and avoid pricking it with sharp object. Doctor may order certain test like audiometery , CT scan ,MRI , low and high pitched ringing to rule out conditions like hearing loss , exposure to loud noises , earwax build-up , middle ear infection. Doctor may treat it according to the diagnosis , may prescribe medicine antibiotics.
