What Is The White Spot In The Mouth Between Gyms And Tongue?
I went for my bi annual oral exam and cleaning. 6 months ago the hygienist checked me for oral cancer and all was fine. This time while cleaning my teeth she found a white spot and asked if I was aware of an ulcer...I said no...was experiencing no pain. It is a small spot between my gum and my tongue. My dentist checked it thoroughly and stated he thought it was nothing to worry about that it appeared to be scar tissue but to watch it and they gave me a mirror to look at it. I was ok with what my dentist said until the hygienist told me that there should be nothing showing in my mouth. I looked up oral cancer on line and saw less than a five year survival rate and now I'm worried. I do remember eating corn chips and being stabbed by a corn chip in the spot that we are discussing. Should I ask my dentist for a biopsy?
There is nothing to worry about.A small fibrous tissue cannot be cancer. You did not mention the size of the spot.As you mentioned, this can be a scar after the irritation from corn. You must get a biopsy if you see it increasing in size or pain or ulceration.Just keep a watch on it and get it checked when you get oral examination done every year. Maintain good oral hygiene routine. Hope this helps.
