Hello! Thank you for asking Healthcaremagic! Answer: Water on the lungs,or pleural effusion is an excessive buildup of fluids between lungs and chest cavity. Certain medical conditions can cause the pleural effusion: -heart failure -cirrhosis (poor liver function) -pulmonary embolism (blockage in one or more of the arteries in your lungs) -pneumonia -kidney disease -certain types of cancer—such as lung, breast, and ovarian cancers—as well as lymphoma and mesothelioma Your sister may have the following tests to evaluate the lungs further: CT scan pleural fluid analysis in this analysis the fluid is tested for the presence of protein or cancer cells.
