What Leads To Headache, fatigue And Dizziness Inspite Of Undergoing Sinus Surgery?

Hello. I am a 26 year old female. I was 100% happy and healthy until 2 years ago. I started feeling off . Symptoms (starting with most significant) : Head pressure, head pain, fatigue, itchy skin sensations. Symptoms continued (no particular order): reoccurring itchy elbow rash, shaky feeling inside, nerves feel confused and stressed, dizziness, head rushes, sore neck, random hives, sinus congestion, sinus discharge, ear pain, ear crackling. Ruled out: I have had sinus surgery with no relief, I have had allergy testing, eye testing, ear testing, steroid ear injections, CT scans, MRIs, MRA, lumbar puncture, all my dental work up to date. Many labs. Everything coming up normal. It s a day to day struggle to get out of bed. My head pressure and head pain is worse in the mornings upon waking. The itching keeps me up at night and irritates me throughout the day. I can best describe how I feel as a sober hangover . I have refrained from any mood altering/enhancing substances. I have been prescribed many pain medications, beta blockers, steroids, diuretics, and preventative headache medications. I take them the length prescribed and they have all had little to no effect. My head feels like it has a film around it. And my body feels really off balance. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You had sinus surgery, but you are presently having headache, fatigue. dizziness. Success of sinus surgery is high but at times it may not be successful due to ciliary dysfunction, infection, chronic rhinitis, deviated nasal septum, etc. Post sinus surgery you may have symptoms of headache, dizziness or fatigue until your vital signs have normalized.

Post surgery you should follow the wound care instructions. Nose should not be blown a week after the surgery. Cleaning the nostrils, scabs, etc., is also restricted post-surgery. Post surgery complications occur due to neglect and not following the wound care instructions carefully.

You are suggested to get an appointment for a follow-up clinical examination. Get clinically evaluated so that you may get medical support and treatment urgently for the symptoms that are causing you discomfort. Get repeat blood tests, imaging tests (CT / MRI) done to detect tumor, brain damage, infection, bleeding, etc. Get thyroid function tests done. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
