So i tried fluocinonide ointment my doctor had prescribed to me a few years ago due to my eczema conditions. after a few hours of applicant, my face started gettting very itchy and i couldnt stop scratching it, i went to wash it off and my face was very red and swollen. i took a allergy medicine and went to sleep right away. it has been 3 days since the incident and my face is still very red and swollen. It's snowing and i cant get a doctors appoinment so i turned to this website. please help! what medication should i use? i've been using lac-hydrin five moisturizing lotion and it get the swelling down but it makes it even redder, and stings everytime i put it on.. thank you so much!!

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
The prescription provided by your doctor seemed apt for your skin condition. In such conditions usually a steroid cream and emollient is enough. So ideally fluocinonide should have worked. But sometimes the carrier or vehicle in such creams can irritate the skin. Also i would advise that you avoid using lac hydrin as it contains ammonium lactate. Though its a good moisturiser but lactic acid can irritate already compromised skin. So right now I would advise that either you use a bland occlusive like vaseline or an emollient like cetaphil( preferred). Also use another steroid like hydrocortisone twice in a day. Take tablet cetrizine for few days. Avoid direct cold winds over face. Hopefully in few days, your skin condition would improve.
Take care
