What Medicine Can Lithium Be Replaced With For Treatment Of Bipolar Depression?
In 2005 I was diagnosed with bipolar depression II and began taking lithium. It caused weigh gain, severe hair loss and incontinence. I stopped taking lithium about a year go and have begun haviing agitation episodes about every 4-6 weeks. What other anti-agitation medications could I take with Cymbalta that would not cause weight gain, hair loss or incontinence?

What Medicine Can Lithium Be Replaced With For Treatment Of Bipolar Depression?
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Sodium valproate or carbamazepine would be best alternative mood stabilizers. Anti-anxiety medications like benzodiazepines- diazepam can help on a short-term basis. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Gautham Baskaran
