Yes, have been diagnosed with Nocardiosis (state laboratory New Mexico). Have probably had this infection for over 25 years.
My pulmonary specialist had me on bactrim ds 6 pills daily for one year. Then one pill daily - the Nocardia returned.
I need to be under and Infectious disease specialist control. But none of my doctors(pumonary or internal medicine) would recommend any of the two inf disease doctors nearby.
It may be that I am simply too old now. I had been requesting a brocoscopy since 1995 - from various pulmonary doctors in Texas, California, and Arizona. They all denied my request - claiming what I had was COPD.
Well my diabetes, and my COPD cleared after a weeks worth of Bactrim DS -two years ago.
The disease is now diseminated - I'm concerned about what other organs are affected (brain, heart).
This is the beginning of my third year on bactrim. I am now taking 3 pills of Bactrim DS daily. This is the minimum that keeps me stable.
Can you refer me to a Infectious disease specialist????
