What Precaution Have To Be Taken Care For The Suprapubic Catheter Maintenance?

I am a home care nurse and I m seeing a patient tomorrow that had a suprapubic catheter placed on 3-31-14. He had a small amount of bloody drainage on 4/7 around site and the dressing was changed. He had a follow up appointment today 4/10 and I got a note to see him tomorrow 4/11 to educate patient and caregiver about care of the catheter. This is my first time seeing this patient. I m thinking the best thing I can teach them is proper handwashing and keeping the site clean. Any other suggestions on what I should teach them?

I really appreciate your concern, if the supra-pubic catheter is there then this to be managed very carefully, first the infection is very likely due to this catheter and for that the catheter need to be cleaned with the Povidone solution with normal saline, (Povidone was) every after second day this would also prevent the catheter form block, catheter need to be changed every after fifteen days, hope this information helps you have nice day.
