What Precautions Needs To Be Taken When Diagnosed With HPV Infection?

Hi I had a lesion removed from the uvula and was identified to be papilloma via biopsy. The ENT noted it is benign and it is very common. From my own research it is likely caused by HPV infection and can be transmitted. How concerned should I be in regards to this issue and what precautions should I take with my spouse and children. Thank you

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

In order to confirm or rule out infection with HPV. I suggest you get immunohistochemistry (IHC) against HPV. In case IHC is negative for HPV, there is noting to worry. In case the lesion is positive for HPV, then you need be careful about recurrence of similar lesions.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
