What Quantity Of Sucrose Intake Is Advisable To A Heart Patient?
I am a heart attack survivor and am on a restricted diet. Sugar and sodium are the 2 things I really watch. Being new to a healthy lifestyle I am struggling to find an answer on natural sugar vs added sugar. The American Heart Assoc says 37 gram of added sugar per day is the recommended amount and that is do not have to worry about natural sugars found in fruits and vegetables. For the past 7 months I have been sticking to 40 grams total sugar per day regardless of natural or added sugar. Any thoughts?
Hello dear Understand your concern. Better to avoid sucrose if possible in heart patient. Sucrose cause dyslipidaemia and hypertriglyceridemia compare to natural sugar. Avoid all type of the coldrinks and corn syrup as it contain high sucrose. Sucrose that contain fructose , that bypasses the main rate regulating steps of glycolysis, enhance the clearance of sugar and produce more lipids.
But natural sugars are good. Take 40 gm of natural sugars that is presents in fresh fruits like, grapes, papaya, water melon, orange and apple.
Hope this may help you. Best regards. Dr. Sagar
