Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Should I Do For Persistent Coughing In Pregnancy ?
I am 30 weeks pregnant . I am have a persistent hacking cough which comes in spells, even waking me up at night. When it starts, it s horrible and I can t stop. On March 14th my obgyn prescribed me a Z-Pac. Then on the 24th he gave me a codeine/guaifenesin syrup. I am not producing any phlegm . I feel it in there, but I am not getting it up. At this point I am feeling desperate. I am concerned about my baby being effected. Dr. never performed any tests to get to the bottom of this and says that it s to late to test anything. What should I do?
Dear Lea
First of all I must congratulation, because you are going to be a mother because you are going to have a nice baby, don't be panic if your body temperature does not rises then you must not worry, avoid any kinds of cough syrup because it wont help you instead it some time causes harm to mother and baby too, if routine hematology test is in normal range then the cough would be self limiting, you should better avoid spicy food, avoid taking too much food in one time take little meal every after two hours, sleep well keeping your head in 45 degree take some antacid which, if you find pedal edema then better go for renal function test, otherwise every thing would be better and last but not least try taking two spoon of pure honey every night have a good motherhood
