What Should Be Done If Malarone Has Caused Allergic Reation Leading To Severe Itching?

We returned from Tanzania a week ago and just finished our malarone pills yesterday. Our 17 year old daughter awoke in the night with intense itching of her scalp, which has now progressed into hives all over her torso. We suspect an allergic reaction to the Malarone after reading online that some people have developed hives after finishing the meds. We gave her a benadryl, is there anything else we should do?

Hi,

I have gone through your query.
Malarone is given for treatment or prevention of malaria. Your daughter suddenly suffered intense itching, this might be allergic reaction to malarone. As you have given her Benadryl an anti allergic, there is nothing more need to be done if hives have subsided. Otherwise you have to see a doctor for few injections.
