Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. My son began having diarrhea and high fever on Tues. His fever was between 103 and 104 for two days. His doctor found nothing remarkable about his abdomen despite the frequent diarrhea. He did say one ear looked infected and prescribed amoxicillin. He has had two doses of the amoxi but still has diarrhea and his anus is extremely sore. Is there anything else I can do to comfort him? And how is ear infection connected with diarrhea? Thank you.
Diarrhea with fever indicates an underlying bacterial or viral infection. The exacerbation of diarrhea with amoxicillin is due to the side effect of the antibiotic. An ear infection is part of the systemic manifestation of the pre-existing infection itself. Salient guidelines at present - Give him plenty of liquids with oral rehydration salt. - Stop to give further doses of amoxicillin. - Discuss with the doctor regarding change of antibiotic in concern with existing diarrhea. - Add probiotics with lactobacillus and paracetamol as antipyretic for controlling fever and diarrhea.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
