Hi,I am Dr. Carol Rogala (Emergency Medicine). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mom took my dad to the hospital with some mild chest pains. At the hospital, his blood pressure was fine, the ekg was normal, and his blood work showed nothing. They want to keep him overnight for observation adn they want to do a stress test in the morning. What should he expect? Should I be even more worried? I guess it is a good sign that his blood work showed nothing. is it? Im sorry, but I am just scared.
Chill out. He did the right thing. Seems he'll be ok. Does he ever get nervous? Does he work in the yard and move a bunch of stuff on the weekend? The brestplate between your ribs can get out of wack and when ou move l you have this terrible sharp pain right in the middle of the chest. Ask him if that is were it is. Most of the time you can push on it and it will hurt, it can also hurt when you breathe. Normally when lyou pick yourself up or move something it hurts. I've had it before and don't weird out about it. he has to not lift stuff and it will heal. It nerves are involved it could be tightness in the chest and he will need a med to take when he needs it to slow down his BaBA.
Now to the stress test. What they do is put you on a tread mill and you start to run and they hookuup abounch of wires to get a reading on the different parts of your heart. They will run the stuffings out of you , but you are at the docotrs office. He can always , and they tell you this , when enough is enough. So if he's on a tread mill it's like rulnning fast. If they are going to pump chemicals into him to get the same effect then that's different and they give you an IV and either sit or lay you down and pump the stuff into you until your heart beats as fast as they want to get a reading on all its chambers.
Technology has gotten so good now that they have 3D machines to look at the heart and the "stress test" will be a thing of the past. They are 2 D now and only the top places have this new machine.
Don't worry zillions have it done every year and come out ok.
OK!
See ya and take care. Tell him to lay off the pork. Also he should take COq10, ribose, fish oil and omega with a good multivitamin and folic acid. These really work and as we get older we need them.
Hi,
Thanks for query,
If typical chest pain is there and ECG is normal,we should not conclude that this person is not having coronary pain.Second ECG taken after 8 hours is normal then we may rule out cardiac cardiac pain.
Ok and bye,
