I have had recurrent uti since I was a child and am now 67. I have been infected for about 8 months currently. I have a left kidney extrarenal pelvis, which has been the only anomally found through many years of exams. Doctors made a vaccine of my urine to inject as a child. I was also given gamma globulin shots, which seemed to help. Any new innovative ideas other than the continuous antibiotics? Fewer of them are sensitive and that worries me.
Hello and welcome to HCM. As an urologist, I can understand your anxiety. You can repeat the urine culture, two days after stopping the antibiotic. If there's no infection seen, stop it. If at all UTI's seen, a low dose antibiotic prophylaxis, will be needed. Drink about 8-10 glasses fluids daily. Wish you well. Dr. MATTHEW J. MANGAT.
